Equal Treatment in the Workplace

Equality Is Something We Work on Every Day

A few days ago, we spent a few hours talking about equality. But more importantly, we took part, listened, shared ideas, and put ourselves in situations that encouraged us to reflect on how we relate to the people we work with every day.

We did so through a workshop on equal treatment in the workplace, facilitated by Juan Abel García Sánchez as part of Torrents Defense Support’s equality program.

This was far from a conventional training session. Through a series of activities and group dynamics, participants became actively involved in an experience designed not only to share knowledge, but also to encourage reflection and help what we learned stay with us beyond the session itself.

And for us, that is an important part of its value.

Beyond compliance

Equality policies provide a necessary framework. They help us define commitments, measures, and responsibilities. But making equality a genuine part of an organization takes more than that. It requires working on it every day.

Equality between women and men, but also equal treatment for everyone, with respect for our differences. Respect, tolerance, and inclusion cannot simply exist in a policy document: they need to be part of how we interact with one another and how we understand teamwork.

That is why this workshop is also part of our calendar of activities focused on corporate culture.

Learning through experience

Some things can be explained in a presentation. Others are better understood when we have the opportunity to experience them, discuss them with others, and consider them from different perspectives. That was the approach behind this session.

Juan Abel led a highly dynamic and participatory workshop, using activities that actively engaged the group and created opportunities for reflection and conversation. The feedback from participants afterwards reinforced something we consider particularly valuable: an important subject can be addressed seriously while still being approachable, engaging, and genuinely involving the people taking part.

The goal was not to finish the session able to repeat a series of concepts. It was to leave having thought about them.

Building the culture we want

At Torrents Defense Support, we take our responsibility to build a workplace based on equal treatment and respect seriously.

That means meeting our obligations, of course. But it also means creating opportunities to talk about these issues, reconsider behaviors we may sometimes take for granted, and strengthen together the culture we want to share.

Corporate culture is not built only through major decisions. It is also built in moments like these: when we make time to learn together, listen to one another, and remind ourselves what kind of workplace we want to create.

Equality is part of that commitment. And, like so many other aspects of our culture, it is something we work on every day.
